I do not seem to be able to keep up with myself. Again, Its been sometime since I wrote in my blog.
Since my last entry, the lift got fixed after about numerous phone calls. It got me thinking about going for a ground floor flat for next time but theres always the security problem. I like having windows open when the weather is good.
I went to London for work last week. It was to give a presentation and it was held at the RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects). My boss and I stayed at the
Melia White House Hotel . It seems like a posh hotel. But there are steps everywhere and they get these ramps out which are a bit dodgy. I didnt dare to drink even if I was offered because I had to drive up and down these ramps!
And as for thier accessible bathroom, it was a very inaccessible accessible bathroom! I should say dangerous. It had doors to the shower stall which is to be kept shut in use which means you cannot transfer easily. The doorway was not wide enough -even if I had someone with me-which I didn't. The stool provided was wobbly and the marble floor was extremely treacherous. There were no support bars in the shower itself and the shower head was really high up. I would not try and have another shower in there again.
We took the train to Euston. Phil, my boss, had an education he was not expecting I think. We went all around the Euston belly to get to the taxi rank and then, it was not easy to get into the taxi. He had to wait for me quite a bit. And then to cap it, he was left doing most of the presentation by himself because I was trapped for a while in the ladies loo in the RIBA basement.
But I did enjoy going to London wth my power wheelchair. The buses are quite accessible, I managed to get a bus map from Euston. I had dinner with Jonathan, Phil and Yuyu in the evening at an Indian restaurant (
Zamzama) before returning back to Coventry.
