I didnt really know what to expect from this holiday. I flew into Nice airport on Thursday evening. My 3 mobile connection do not seem to work in Nice - it works in Spain and Italy but not in France (not this part of France apparently).
I find Nice very lively and interesting but I have not had enough time to explore it properly. It seems noisy, exuberant and polluted. A great deal of gaseous fumes along the Promenade des Anglaises.
But the view of the bay with the sea and the mountain backdrop is heady and enticing, unbeatable. It is what makes the Mediterranean so magical.

We then went straight to Airole - Gian's village. Up high - medieval village nestling in the mountains, its picturesque and certainly Gian has a wonderful view from his balcony. I was enchanted, this is part of the mairitime alps.
Insipte of all the scaffolding and renovations, the village still has a timeless quality about it and it seems very quiet. Too quiet for a townie like me. But is is lovely to sit and soak up the sun like Gian's cat stretched out on the ledge of the balcony.
Gian took me up ito the medieval allyways - slightly scarey because some of the passageways were rather sleep. Gian says that many nationalies have started buying properties there. I am sure they treasure the history of the place.
Ventimiglia is somewhat more busy. I enjoyed visiting the pub and buying patisseries for people at work. We did spend a certain amount of time waiting for the guy to turn up with the key for the toilet for the disabled at the station.
