Roman weekend

I went for a short weekend to Rome - to meet up with John, my godfather,  to celebrate our birthdays together. John  was a formative influence in my youth and he was  a mentor  and all sorts, listened to all my  teenage woes  and shared with me his philiosophy, warmth and  generousity.  And he still does.

I had great problems finding a cheaper accessible  hotel room..not much luck but then John said I could stay at the  La Salle  hotel-they have one accessible room. So i stayed there-lovely big comfy room and not too far from the centre  or the Vatican.

We managed to go to St Peter's Square. It was good to be there. It was somewhat marred by the fact that taxi drivers were not too pleased to accomodate wheelchair passengers. I had 3 taxi drivers at point of refusing to take me, So much for St Peter and being at the Vatican gate.

We also took the tourist buses and toured Rome. Hop on and off..they were accessible andd very good, the staff were helpful. A tip is that you can only get back on if people get off so at the end of the day, its not easy to get back on the bus.
