I should really try to write more often but some evenings I have been too tired, and then my pc gave me the dratted blue screen (crashed) but I do want to jot down a few lines about events in the past couple of weeks.
I have been to Strasbourg to see my solicitor and sort out a few things - also took the opportunity to catch up with some friends. However, I missed my Ryannair flight and had to stay a night at Stansted Hotel. How did I miss the flight? Misjudgement of allowance of needed travel time and terrible traffic I guess. However, I did not fancy staying overnight at the airport so I checked into the Radisson Stansted Airport. There are cheaper hotels but when I rang, they told me that they were not accessible. The good thing about this hotel is that you can ask for wheelchair assistance to and from the hotel. The hotel itself did not generate a homely feeling but , this must be intentional, had a hangar feeling about it. There is a big atrium with the bar and its " 'Wine Angels' flying up and down retrieving bottles of wine for that discerning connoisseur" but the walkways on each level had ground lights which made me feel vertigo even though I was not looking down. Not sure what ppeople with visual impairments would think about them.
After having left Strasbourg and not been back for a year, I felt a distinct feeling of a stranger and having left. This is inspite of the warm welcome which I recieved and hospitality from freinds. It was a very unsettling feeling especially when I had the same type of disassociation when I was back in Malaysia. Perhaps I am in limboland.
I was also stuck on a train to Euston last Thursday. A journey which would normally take an hour took over 6 hours because of the high winds - the train was restricted to a 50 mile speed limit and then a tree fell on a track which meant we had to go back in order to go forward. This meant that I was stuck without a drink for all that time. Maybe I should have asked/rang for assistance from the service manager and asked him to fetch me a cup of tea!
For the first time in my life in the UK, the black cabs did not want to take me at Euston. They are not allowed to refuse anyone normally and if I had a pen, i could have written down their license and reported them. Going to the Sheraton Heathrow Skyline Hotel meant taking the Heathrow Express to the airport and taking the Hopalong bus. Again the black cab was reluctant to take me. either it never happens or it happens all on the same day.
