My young friend, Kavvie, has found a job in Kuala Lumpur as an editor in a publishing firm. Congratulations Kavvie! But she also told me about Jobstreet.com.
And what I really like is, that for jobs in Malaysia - they have a special link to jobs for the disabled. I dont think I've ever seen that before, not in a commercial job site. It is set up by Along with the Penang Knowledge Information Communication and Technology (KICT) Council and the Socio-economic & Environmental Research Institute (SERI). I knew there is a reason why Penang is my favourite island. There is a message from the Minister in Penang, (TAN SRI DR KOH TSU KOON)
YB Dato Hajah Jahara bt Hamid,(Chairperson, Digital Equity Steering Committee,Penang Knowledge Information Communication and Technology (KICT) Council) had this to say:
It seems a pity that there were only 4 jobs in the Browse section and only registered disabled Malaysians can apply. It is a good start, however, and shows a disability consciousness, bravo Jobstreet, Malaysia.

In the age of globalization and information technology (IT), computers have become part of our lives, from the way we work, communicate, purchase goods and to obtaining information. Jobs in the new economy now increasingly require technical skills and familiarity with new technologies. In essence, computers have become a necessity and a tool in moving up the social-economic ladder.Digital divide is a term that evolved out of concerns over the role computers play in widening social gaps throughout our society, particularly among socially marginalized groups such as the disabled and between geographical locations of urban and rural areas.

The website will provide a platform for both prospective employers and employees to meet. Disabled jobseekers can also browse the job site and apply to the jobs directly after they deposit their resume. Similarly, employers post jobs to the job site for disabled. Both employers and placement officers of NGOs dealing with disabled persons will also be able to access the database of registered disabled jobseekers from JobStreet.coms SiVA recruitment management application.
